The residence hall belongs to a non-profit foundation. It is named after its founders, the couple Keller-Thoma.
The chairman of the foundation presides over the board who administrates the house.

In general

Our residence hall has a protestant background but is open to students of all denominations, religions and beliefs. It is the idea of the founders that the house shall provide affordable lodging for students in one of the nicest neighbourhoods of Heidelberg.
In our dormitory, we live in an open minded and social community.
The basis of our community are three basic principles:

1. Protestant background

2. Welfare and social work

3. Student’s democratic self-management

Protestant background

According to the founders’ intention, our house has a protestant profile. It means that the students are encouraged to play an active part in our community. Critical minds, open for discussion on contemporary problems are appreciated. We value in this sense other beliefs and religions and try to foster understanding. The admission procedure for new residents hence honours the interest in interdisciplinary issues, for instance, when students enrolled in theology or philosophy also attend classes in jewish or islamic studies. Furthermore, it regards a fair representation of courses which can be studied in Heidelberg as there are Medicine, engineering, law or education studies. Once a term, we celebrate an ecumenical service, which is prepared by the students. Moreover a weekly bible study group initiated and organised by the students exists. Biblical texts and their present relevance are discussed in regard to their potential concrete implementation. The study groups keeps its vitality by the approaches from the different religious perspectives of its participants.

Welfare and social work

We try to connect our faith with practical action. Therefore, the residence hall offer our students the opportunity to become actively involved in voluntary work with local church and welfare organisations. New ideas for cooperations are warmly welcomed and may presented to the students, which is responsible for the organisation and coordination of these activities.

Student's democratic self-management

The students democratic self-management of the residence hall of the Keller-Thoma foundation is among the characteristics that is in this respect unique among various christian residence halls in Heidelberg. It aims at living democratic ideals adapted to the community’s welfare. Assuming responsibility for oneself and for our neighbours is within our understanding of acting critically minded.. We share the thoughts that the freedom of a Christian rather means the once and for all gifted chance to vouch for the good than a feeling of ones personal state. Overcoming prejudices, religious one-sidedness and intolerance by using this freedom is in our interest as it they affect our living together. We allow for our ecumenical ethos due to the great variety of different religions and christian denominations in our hall. A house of over 50 students requires, of course, that we share responsibility for several daily or weekly chores.
We call the chores “Referate” (Departments).
And the students also have a say in the foundation’s executive council.
